Atrial Septal Defects in Children
نویسنده
چکیده
D EFECTS in the atrial septum are of relatively great clinical importance. They are the most common of all congenital cardiac malformations, constituting as a single lesion 7 to 25 per cent' and as a combined lesion perhaps as high as 85 per cent2 of all congenital cardiac anomalies. Moreover, they are not infrequently accompanied by disturbances in circulation which cause symptoms sufficiently severe to compel the patient or the patient's family to seek medical help. Except for an occasional instance, they are not as yet among those congenital cardiac lesions that are amenable to surgical treatment Since these defects are not operable, their recognition is of importance in deciding whether a given congenital lesion can or cannot be treated surgically. With further surgical progress, possibly in the directions already being taken by Santy,3 Murray,4 and others, the sure recognition of atrial septal defects may become the prelude to their repair.

Evaluation of Clinical Course in Children and Adolescents with Atrial Septal Defects
Background Atrial septal defects (ASDs) are the most common third congenital heart defects. This study aimed to evaluate the clinical course of ASDs and the relationship between its complications, location closure and size. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted...
متن کاملHolt-Oram Syndrome: A Rare Variant
Holt-Oram syndrome is an autosomal dominant disorder, characterised by skeletal abnormalities of the upper limb associated with congenital heart defect, mainly atrial and ventricular septal defects. Skeletal defects exclusively affect the upper limbs in the preaxial radial ray distribution and are bilateral and asymmetrical. They range from clinodactyly, absent or digitalised thumb, hypoplastic...
متن کاملStudy of the Association between Congenital Heart Defects and Neuroblastoma in Abdominal Sonography
Abstract Background A higher prevalence of congenital heart defects (CHD) in neuroblastoma patients in general population is reported in some publications, however, some authors did not find such an association. The evidence for this relation comes from the observation that, the neural crest cells accompany to the development of the heart and neuroblastoma as well. Materials and Methods We...
متن کاملUrgent Surgical Intervention for Embolized Cardiac Occluder Devices: A Case Series
Introduction: In this study, we sought to illustrate our experience in urgent surgical management for embolized cardiac septal occlude devices resulting from trans-catheter closure of atrial septal defect and ventricular septal defect. Mathrials and Methods: We retrospectively reviewed four patients aged 2–10 years who underwent urgent surgery due to cardiac septal occluder embolization between...
متن کاملHis bundle recordings in children with normal hearts and congenital heart disease.
His bundle potentials were recorded in 50 children. Eight had normal hearts, 11 had ventricular septal defects, seven had the tetralogy of Fallot, seven had secundum atrial septal defects, and eight had pulmonary valve stenosis. There were miscellaneous defects in nine children. Ages ranged from 2 weeks to 14 years. Two intervals were measured on recordings: (1) from the initial atrial activity...
